The One Mistake You Should Never Make When Treating Your Dog’s Hot Spots

As a pup parent you are likely familiar with the dreaded hot spot. Those red, moist, irritated, sometimes oozy skin lesions that seem to appear out of nowhere on your dog.
The thing is, there’s a lot of bad information out there when it comes to treating hot spots. I just read an article the other day that suggested it could be a behavioral problem.
Sure it’s a behavioral problem -- the pet owner’s behavior!
You see, hot spots are almost always a reaction to the food.
Which leads me to the biggest mistake dog owners make when treating hot spots: thinking that they can resolve the issue using antibiotic creams and other topical treatments.
Antibiotics and other topical sprays, creams or ointments can treat the symptoms but not the underlying cause. Hot spots and other canine skin conditions are never just about the skin -- the hot spot is nothing but a symptom of an underlying issue.
You’ve got to treat the problem not the symptoms!!
Look at the diet. What could be causing a reaction?
Start by eliminating all animal, vegetable and industrial by-products. Then look for common allergens such as soy, corn and wheat. Don’t forget about artificial flavors and colors, as well as preservatives. Then make sure you’re getting all the good stuff in there – like human-grade protein, healthy fats, plus fruits and veggies for antioxidants and vitamins.
